No Kings Rally - the costumes

As promised in last week's blog, costumes from the No Kings Rally on 18 October in Santa Fe, are featured in today's posting. The political fashion statements ranged from commercially produced blowups to handmade. Creativity knows no bounds!

Given New Mexico's history with aliens and the Roswell Incident, this metaphorical image of aliens of a different sort, waving an American flag, is an appropriate place to begin.

Then there are Marie Antoinette and her dance partner...

Characters from A Hand Maid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, featuring a totalitarian society, has been a constant in every rally this year.

Given that Halloween is on Friday, I thought this photograph was appropriate.

It was interesting to hear from so many of you across America who attended rallies on the 18th (or were there in spirit), and commented about them. Thank you, Claudia, Ross, Sandra B., Karren, Kay, Jean & Sam, Katy D., M.Fred, Steve, Marilyn G., Brenda, Sara M. W., Catherine, and TTT!

Actor Frank Morgan portraying the Wizard of Oz in the 1939 film, issued one of those quotes that just seems right for these times.

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain".

Thanks for sharing the No Kings festivities in your neighborhood. Some friends and I participated in the Dayton, Ohio demo, and it was grand. We had a ball! Our 4th march this year. And we will do this as long as necessary. We the People shall prevail.

Costumes and signs are the way to show opposition but also the human spirit that's not broken by our would be king and his enablers. The combination of sign and costume in one protester is priceless. My favorite combo is the last entry with the Trumpkin sign. That's a new one to me and certainly perfect for the season. The Hand Maid's Tale is too apt for comfort. "Ballroom for me. No health care for thee" shows the priorities of this kingdom. I mean administration.

My favorite up here in Taos was "Ginga tu Maga" which harkens to the vernacular Spanish of my high school days in Arizona. My sentiments exactly.
