Some of you who have been kind enough to follow my blog for all these many years may have noticed that on several occasions, I have featured assorted shoes. Whether they are cowboy boots, work boots, sandals, dress shoes or running and walking shoes, I find these things that protect our feet and help us work or play on a daily basis fascinating. Mind you, I am not an Imelda Marcos and don't have a closet filled with shoes, but I appreciate their design and structure. And during this age in which we now live, there is a huge assortment of them, manufactured in almost every country. In addition to the great people watching at Indian Market two weekends ago in Santa Fe, the clothing - including footwear - was imminently photo worthy.

I love the complement of the orange-red shoes of the rider to the black and chrome of which this beefy machine was constructed.

I was lucky enough to catch the owner of these lovely cowboy boots in mid-step.

I suspect the shoes below were not only a match to the skirt, but worn for comfort during a long weekend.

After having such a great time photographing footwear at the market, I decided to search my archives for assorted photographs from years past in which shoes were part of the main event, such as this image from an engagement shoot on a bridge along the Santa Fe River.

When photographing weddings, I almost always photograph shoes and or feet not only just for fun but also to give the image a time tag and a bit of history. The bride's footwear shown below are from a wedding I photographed in 2011.

It is always interesting to see what bridesmaids choose to complement their dresses.

A good outdoor wedding in New Mexico is frequently complete with assorted cowboy boot styles.

I am grateful to the people around the world who make shoes that can be functional, comfortable, and, when need be, also elegant.

Well, it is hard to believe this is my last blog for the month of August. Like many of you, it feels like the summer just began! But we also head into my favorite time frame - late summer into autumn.

I agree with what Immel said. An unlikely photo subject but a collections that does makeup an interesting story of simplicity with the magic of your eye. Nice work, it reminded me that I'm still looking for a new pair of shoes that fits my imagination. Thanks.

This post was a lot of fun, Daryl. Seeing the small things is an important part of being a photographer in the moment. In the moment being the operative phrase. Black and white or in color footwear can tell us a lot about situations, locations, and spirit. These are festive whether monochrome or color. Even the red sneakers and black and chrome moto suggest fun.
