It is Christmas Eve. After wonderful celebrations with friends this week and weekend, things are moving at a very civilized pace this morning. Nowhere to go except by foot, sun shining through the windows, wash churning in the machine in preparation for a string of snowy, less than sun-filled days.

The stock tank continues to offer amazing ice designs as the water level builds and then retreats, and freezes and thaws. I wanted to share a few photographs with you. The first was taken without direct sunshine, rendering the color more of a blue, with the ice reflecting the sky.

The second two shots were taken with direct sunlight shining on and through the ice, resulting in a greenish tint - the truer color of the water. The bubbles shine like jewels here.

Love your ice pictures. We have to break the ice on the chickens' water each day, now. The feral cats' water freezes solid, so I just top it up with slightly warm water. Ice can be so beautiful, can't it?

You're on a roll with the abstracts, Daryl. I makes me think that, like snowflakes, no two ice formations are the same. You are quite right that he direct sunlight renders the water more realistically but also pops the highlights and offers more sense of depth.
