still life near the ocean

November 04, 2024  •  4 Comments

Early morning hours are magical, regardless of the location.  But living in the high desert of the southern Rocky Mountains, I tend to forget that the sound of the ocean is always there, never ceasing, and the birds that live in any given area near the ocean, communicate seemingly non-stop as well.  An endless cycle of life.  As the sun rises, many birds, including the cormorants, have been feeding.  They doze on nearby rocks and trees, and fix their feathers after many dives into the water.

The low blue glow of the early morning hours lent itself to a tree, making an other-worldly scene reminiscent of many pirate movies.

It would be a sad day indeed if I was unable to locate a good reflection of something, anything.  This morning did not disappoint as sailboat masts appeared on the water.

And what would a coastal community be without a hodge podge of canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards?

Welcome moisture has arrived in northern New Mexico in the form of both rain and snow.  A bonus before a La Niña year begins.

until next Monday,

Lovely images all. Reflections is rippling water, pond, river or bay, lean toward abstraction as yours do. To me they are serene and silent even if they aren't. In our early married years we lived half a block from a tidal river which entered the ocean less than a mile away. So, scenes like these transport me to a dreamspace.

It seems that you and Fred savored your coastal sojourn as I did. Welcome back to the eve of winter or so it feels.

As I finish my cuppa, do some wash and make the bed, a silent, yet steady rain finds its way for a pleasant scene on the other side of my kitchen window. To the north (Santa Fe) it has snowed some. To the east (of the Sandia Mountains) it has also snowed some. Even in some parts of Albuquerque it has snowed some. In my little district of Barelas, the rain softly continues. soft and sweet it causes miniscule waves in tiny puddles.

Ahhh...

But I so miss the ocean. Thank you, Daryl, for reminding me that the ocean is only a thought away...
