The Concise Oxford English Dictionary, 10th edition, defines love in these ways "an intense feeling of deep affection", "a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone", a great interest and pleasure in something", "affectionate greetings". Thinking about the world as we know it, I would say we need more of it and it is high time. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung was ahead of his time when he said:
"Where love rules, there is no will to power; and where power predominates, there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other."
Love comes in myriad forms that I cannot even begin to describe here. Thus, in honor of love and Valentine's Day next Saturday, flowers and words will have to suffice.
One of my favorite quotes about love comes from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin - philosopher, Jesuit priest, and paleontologist.
"Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire."

Or as artist William Holman Hunt said "Art is love."

Humor and love go hand in hand. Writer and actor Ring Lardner said "He gave her a look you could have poured on a waffle"
and from Pearl Bailey, actress and singer a wonderful summation of love
"What the world really needs is more love and less paperwork."
