red again

March 21, 2026  •  5 Comments

For those of you who enjoyed the red in last week's blog or are otherwise lovers of the color, here are the five images that were included in a mini-portfolio in the "Color It Red" issue of Shadow and Light Magazine.   They are as varied in theme as is my photographic subject interest.   The first is a detail of one of the suspension towers of the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The tango shoe below also has structure to it, not only in the sole but in the location of the heel.

A peony's stem is quite hefty, given the masses of petals in the flower that need to be held upright.

Glass stems come in many shapes and sizes, but they all hold the bowl of the glass, each of which, in this case, contains a berry.

Finally, a hefty and substantial bell pepper has its weight supported by a black pottery bowl.

Thanks to Charleen, Victoria, Connie, Steve, Jean and Sam, Sara, TTT, and MFB for commenting last week!

The spring has much to offer, and with luck, you (with your camera) will be out taking advantage of it!

Lovely splash of reds in each photo. The shoe is terrific and the GGB makes me homesick. Good job, you know your stuff/colors ...

Congratulations, Daryl, for your amazing spread in Shadow and Light this month. All of your photographs are sensational! Your gift for design is evident. It's clear that you had a concept for every image and that you executed each with precision and skill. You earned your portfolio in this issue with such extraordinary work. It's hard to choose favorites from this lineup but I'll pick the tango shoe (the heel color makes it transcendent) and the hollyhock that has such rich volume.
