It has been a rough week for many around our country and the world. I have no doubt that those who lived through the turbulent 60s and early 70s, with the Vietnam War front and center and body counts given in the daily news, are experiencing some deja vu. Somehow, humanity seems to cycle through periods of political disgorgement. The word itself paints a disgusting picture, but the events that accompany these episodes are sad and heartbreaking, making us wonder how the human species survives. You have read in my blog any number of times that I feel art in any and every single form is a palliative, and medicinal to the human spirit. Despite what our species is doing, nature continues on its path, demonstrating its power to capture our attention, even if for only a moment. The photographs in today's blog are dedicated to those who are working so hard and putting their lives on the line to make this world a better place.
I have been working on photographing these flowers that continue to surprise and make me smile far past the holiday season. The first two photographs are of a potted amaryllis - in both color and black and white - which continues to bloom. These photographs were taken over two weeks ago.
